Community Recognition Statement – Remembrance Day 2019

12 Nov 2019

On Remembrance Day, Australia stops to remember the sacrifice of all of our brave soldiers and veterans in war, and to acknowledge the freedoms they fought for.

Yesterday I attended the Remembrance Day Service at Boronia Park in Epping, where I joined with the Epping RSL Sub Branch and others to pay respects to Australia’s servicemen and servicewomen. It is 100 years since the founding of the Sub Branch in 1919, and I was pleased to have the opportunity to talk with President John Curdie OAM and other members of the executive, and to thank them for their service to our country.

It was also encouraging to see the students from schools throughout the Epping electorate – the next generation of Australians, paying tribute to the generations past who fought and died so that they might live in a country blessed with liberty, democracy and the rule of law.

As we pause on the anniversary of the Armistice – at the eleventh hour on the eleventh of November – it is right that we reflect upon what our freedoms cost and remember those who paid the ultimate price.

Lest we forget.
