Exceptional Hawkesbury Senior Recognised With Achievement Award

18 Apr 2016

Dominic Perrottet MP congratulated Mrs Yvonne Tuckerman who received a 2016 NSW Seniors Local Achievement Award, in recognition of the enormous contribution she has made to the Hawkesbury community.

“These awards are the community’s way of saying ‘thank you’ to our local seniors for their enthusiasm and commitment to their community,” Mr Perrottet said.

“Seniors deserve recognition for the significant contribution they make across many different areas of community life.”

Dominic Perrottet MP congratulated Mrs Tuckerman and thanked her for her commitment and generosity in the Hawkesbury community.

Mrs Tuckerman has been a volunteer for Hawkesbury/Colo Meals on Wheals for over 30 years as well as volunteering at the local museum and library. She was also one of the chartering members of The Hawkesbury Inner Wheel Club holding a variety of positions as well as being an active member of the Rotary Club of Richmond.

Mrs Tuckerman continues to volunteer at Hawkesbury Living Aged Care Centre and has previously helped out at the Uniting Care Hawkesbury Village Aged Care Centre for around 5 years.

“I commend Yvonne Tuckerman for demonstrating the diversity of talent, generosity of spirit and limitless energy of seniors in our community,” Mr Perrottet said.

The 2016 NSW Seniors Local Achievement Awards celebrate seniors’ achievements in a range of categories, including business, environment, science, agriculture, health and wellbeing, learning and community service.

The awards coincide with NSW Seniors Festival, which celebrates and acknowledges the important role that seniors play in our community.

It is the largest festival for seniors in the Southern Hemisphere. An estimated 300,000 seniors are expected to attend more than 1,000 free and discounted events throughout the state during the festival.

The activities support the objectives of the NSW Ageing Strategy, which was launched to support the health and wellbeing of seniors.
