New primary school to reshape education in Epping

27 Feb 2019

Hundreds of families in Epping are set to benefit from the electorate’s first new primary school in 27-years, announced today as part of the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government’s record investment in education.

Treasurer and NSW Liberal candidate for Epping Dominic Perrottet said the election commitment acknowledged the increasing number of young families in the area.

“This is a huge boost for the thriving local community, offering our children the best possible start to life,” Mr Perrottet said.

“It also demonstrates how the Coalition continues to make Epping a priority. This new school is in addition to the removal of all demountable buildings from Epping West Public, not to mention the Sydney Metro Northwest rail line which opens this year.”

The new school will be built on the former TAFE site on Chelmsford Avenue.

Education Minister Rob Stokes said the project is another example of the NSW Government delivering the educational resources students and their families deserve.

“We want our children to have the best possible educational opportunities and providing high-quality school facilities like this one at Epping is a key part of that,” Mr Stokes said.

Detailed design work will now take place to determine what facilities will be needed at the new school and to ensure the needs of the Epping community will be catered for now and into the future.

The new school at Epping is in addition to the NSW Government’s record $6 billion school building program to deliver more than 170 new and upgraded schools, including major upgrades to Epping Public School and Carlingford Public School, as well as the recently completed upgrade of Cherrybrook Technology High School.

Mr Stokes said the Liberal & National Government’s record investment in schools was in stark contrast to Labor’s.

“The last time Labor was in power, they shut down 90 schools, resulting in a loss of more than 500 classrooms and 2000 student places,” Mr Stokes said.

In addition to the record-breaking school building program, the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government has committed an unprecedented investment to eliminate the school maintenance backlog so that every public school in the State provides the world-class facilities that our students and teachers deserve.
