I congratulate Sandra Wright, the local Grandparent of the Year for the Hawkesbury electorate.
Sandra is a deserving recipient for this award. She is grandmother to four grandchildren and has supported and cared for them in their growing years.
Never did she expect the tragedy that unfolded on 23 February 2014, when her eldest granddaughter, Bridget Wright, died after being struck by a tree branch in the playground of Pitt Town Public School.
Bridget was just eight years old. In the days, months and years ahead, the family looked to Sandra for strength and support in getting through this ordeal. She was the organiser of the family. She arranged the funeral, assisted in raising funds to help Bridget’s dad, a single parent, and his remaining child, whilst at the same time she fundraised for Riding for the Disabled, where she volunteers two days a week.
Sandra is a role model in the community. Her strength of character enriches the lives of everyone she connects with.
She is a worthy recipient of the Grandparent of the Year Award.
