GRANTS TO STOP AND CLEAN UP ILLEGAL DUMPING

27 Sep 2018

Member for Hawkesbury Dominic Perrottet announced today that $500,000 in grants are available to combat illegal dumping in the local area through the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Combating Illegal Dumping Clean up and Prevention Program.

“I know illegal dumping is a bugbear for Hawkesbury locals who are sick and tired of seeing rubbish dumped on the side of the road and in pristine bushland,” Mr Perrottet said.

“The money available in these grants offers Hawkesbury City Council, public land managers and community groups the chance to receive much needed funds to combat and prevent illegal dumping.”

“It is an issue that has regularly been brought to my attention by locals and I urge Hawkesbury City Council and public land managers in the region to take up this great funding opportunity.”

The grant program has been running since 2014 and has resulted in $6.3 million being awarded to projects that combat illegal dumping.

In the past projects which have received funding include the installation of gates, signs, surveillance cameras and fencing to tackle illegal dumping along with the removal of thousands of tonnes of illegally dumped waste.

The program is available to councils, public land managers and community groups to establish illegal dumping baseline data, and to clean-up and prevent illegal dumping.

“This significantly contributes to the NSW Government’s target of reducing illegal dumping by 30 per cent by 2020,” Mr Perrottet said.

The grant program is funded under the Waste Less Recycle More initiative, administered by the EPA.

Applicants are able to apply for funding under three streams:

Option 1: $50,000 – $120,000 for councils and public land managers to carry out illegal dumping clean-up and prevention projects.

Option 2: Up to $20,000 for councils and public land managers to establish illegal dumping baseline data.

Option 3: Up to $50,000 for illegal dumping clean-up and prevention community partnerships.
