Funding for better green spaces in Hawkesbury

25 Jan 2017

Member for Hawkesbury Dominic Perrottet has welcomed NSW Government funding for new and improved open green space areas.

Local councils can now apply for the Metropolitan Greenspace Program’s 2016-17 funding round for a share of $4 million in grants to create better greenspace areas and outdoor public facilities.

Grant funding will be matched dollar for dollar by local councils.

“Parks and bushland areas are a key part of making our suburbs great places to live and I’m pleased the NSW Government is providing this funding for better open space areas,” Mr Perrottet said.

“I encourage our local council(s) to apply for funding to help provide new and improved facilities for our local community.”

Projects that receive funding will help build Sydney’s Green Grid linking open spaces, tree-lined walkways and cycleways to create a network of green connections from people’s homes to local centres, workplaces and recreational areas.

The NSW Government contribution to the 2016-17 Metropolitan Greenspace Program has increased to $4 million in 2016-17, up from $3 million in 2015-16.

Since 1990 the Metropolitan Greenspace Program has provided $41 million for more than 600 projects in partnership with councils.

Applications open on 19 January 2017 and need to be submitted by 31 March 2017.

All local councils in Greater Sydney and on the Central Coast are eligible to apply for the grants. Successful projects will be announced in June 2017.

Councils can submit their applications via an online form for the first time at: https://greatersydneycommission.formstack.com/forms/mgp_application_form_2016
